New Child Care Center Opens in Westerly

WESTERLY, RI - A new child care center designed to provide infant, toddler, preschool and afterschool programs for more than 100 area children will open on Route 1 here in mid-September.

The 9,500-square facility will include three outdoor playgrounds and individual classrooms each age group.

Chrissy Charron, an early childhood educator for more than 8 years, has been named director of The Children's Workshop at 42 Franklin Street.

Previously, Charron served as director of Child Care Connection in Pawtucket (which owns and operates child care centers under the name of The Children's Workshop & Child Care Connection). Charron has been with the company since 2002.

"Our new center has been specifically designed to meet the needs of children and working families from Westerly and surrounding communities," said Kevin Fusco, CEO of The Children's Workshop & Child Care Connection.

"There will be afterschool programs for school-aged children which include homework assistance, transportation to and from school, and vacation camps when school is out of session. The center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.," he said.

The Children's Workshop (part of the Child Care Connection, Inc. family), which owns and operates 17 centers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island , emphasizes high quality care and learning, Fusco said.

Many of the company's centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and feature "The Creative Curriculum", a nationally-recognized educational approach to teaching young children.
