13th Annual Worksite Health Award Announced

Lincoln, RI – The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI, has awarded it's 13th Annual Worksite Health Award to The Children's Workshop. Each year this award is presented to recognize a Rhode Island business that is working to promote worksite wellness. The award honors businesses that support prevention through written materials, seminars, lectures, and a demonstrated commitment to education through committee development and policy change.

The Children's Workshop, with over 320 employees, has earned this recognition due to its many health initiatives including an annual Flu Shot Clinic, EAP Program, Smoking Cessation program, Weight Watchers program, and more. "We're so proud of our employees and their commitment to improving their overall health and wellness," said Jane Eddy, Vice President of Human Resources. Stephanie Gallo, Director of Human Resources added, "Our programs have been successful due to their participation."

The companies honored by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce will be presented their awards at a breakfast being held on May 31 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Warwick. The guest speaker is Gary Marino, founder of The Million Calorie Walk.

With heathcare costs continuing to rise, offering health management solutions is rapidly becoming one of the most effective ways for companies to keep the cost down and productivity up and improve the quality of life for employees. These initiatives are also essential to the support of Rhode Island's "Well State" vision.

The Children's Workshop is a member of the Child Care Connection family of early learning centers. The company prides itself in providing their families with one of the best service levels in the child care industry and offers "The Creative Curriculum", a nationally recognized educational approach to teaching young children. The Children's Workshop was founded in 1990 as a company dedicated to providing high quality child care services. The company opened its first child care center in Lincoln, RI and has grown to over 16 early learning centers throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
